Pain when i walk. On ball of foot between big toe and second toe. ?

I was just looking to see what my issue may be. When I squeeze it I cannot feel anything. When I walk in a specific way I feel it. When I use my at home foot massager and align the bump with the balls on the machine, I see stars. Do I need a steroid shot? Can I keep using the massager to help relieve the pain?
