Podiatry Experts started as a question and answer website back in 2008 using a dedicated question and answer script. It was similar to Yahoo! Answers – remember them? Since then the site has grown with an increasing number of questions and podiatry experts replying to them.

With time, the question and answer script that the site was based on was no longer supported by the developer and with time less and less websites using it continued. As the platforms that the script was based on updated (eg PHP version), it became increasing difficult to keep the site running on that script. From what we could tell we were the only site left running that particular question and answer script. We had to create a special hosting environment using older versions of PHP etc to keep it running. This also made the site vulnerable to being hacked which happened multiple times. It was no longer feasible to keep it running in that format.

It was also going to be a shame to just delete the site and loose the content that had been built up over time. In early 2024 the decision was made to ditch the script and copy all the questions across using a WordPress script that is current and supported. There was no way to copy the database of the old site to the new platform, so all the questions and answers had to be manually copied and assigned to different users. If you see something odd on the site about dates and times that older questions were asked and answered, then that is why. We had to recreate the site as new in 2024, but pre-date the content to reflect when it was first created. This was no small task.

The site has been updated but there was an issue with database corruption, so some user were duplicated, others were lost and a lot of extra posts were attributed to a single user, but the site still works!
