I not too keen on surgery which has been advised. Are there any helpful treatments other than surgery for bunions?

The only way to make bunions go away is with surgery.
However, there is a lot that can be done to stop them hurting without surgery. This is to get better fitting shoes; the use of padding to keep pressure of the bunion; exercises and physical therapy to keep the joint mobile; sometimes an injection to reduce swelling may help.
