Are they the same or are they something different? I have been told I have both, but when I search for information its is a little confusing as to the differences between them.
I think the reason for the confusion is that some people use the terms interchangably.
Osteoarthritis is the main cause of hallus rigidus.
To clarify, the hallux is the tech name for big toe, so hallux rigidus means the big toe does not move. Hallux limitus is when there is a restricted range of motion. If you have osteoarthritis in the big toe joint, then this will create a hallux limitus and eventually result in a hallux rigidus, so you do probably have both, one is caused by the other.
