I injured my big toe a couple years ago, as a result my nail died and a new nail began to grow underneath. Around 6 months later, the replacement nail also died and a new nail again began to grow. This has been a cycle ever since, and although I am not experiencing major discomfort it is strange. Should I be concerned, or just deal with it as I have been?

I suspect you are stuck with this and have to mange it the best you can.
The problem probably stems from damage that was done to the growing area (matrix) or the nail plate. That damage can not be undone or fixed.
