I am 13 weeks post op from a lapidus bunionectomy with gastrocnemius recession and nerve block. My bunion areas and surgical sites look and feel great, but I am having numbness, tingling, swelling, and pain in my outer heel and outer ankle. I also have a popping sensation and the feeling of instability in the ankle. Both my surgeon and my physical therapist have indicated that this is not normal, but I haven't gotten any solid answers on what is going on. While they have assured me that the feeling will likely return with use, they haven't given me any explanation for the ankle pain/swelling/instability. They did x-ray the ankle and there are no bone issues. While I've only been in PT for a week, my ankle seems to be getting worse, not better. My question is, could the recession or nerve block have caused a problem with my peroneal tendons? Should I push for testing to find out what's going on or continue with PT and see if it improves?
At 13 weeks it probably too early to be concerned.
Continue with the physical therapy and see how it does,
