Many years ago I got my first and only pedicure at a place that obviously was not clean, because after that one time, I noticed an infection in my big toe nail. Now it is many years later. That nail has broken down to almost the base of where the nail comes out of the skin. I usually have an acrylic false nail built onto it so I can feel comfortable wearing sandals, etc. I recently removed the false nail, cut back as much of the dead nail base as possible, filed it down,[:-unsure] and applied alcohol and other antibacterial sprays. I want to know if this nail 'stub' will ever grow back? Should I have it removed? If I remove it completely, will it somehow begin to grow back, or will I be left with a completely nail-less big toe? Please help.
Hard to say without seeing it. However, its highly likely that it is the growing area of the nail that is damaged and it will be that way permanently. Even if it was removed, that will not fix the growing area and may damage it some more.
