4 years ago before I had my daughter, I had custom orthotics made for my flat feet. I wore them for a while and eventually found that they made my sacroiliac joint problems worse. Recently I have been seeing an osteo who says she thinks I should be wearing my orthotics again. I explained why I stopped wearing them and she says that maybe my feet changed innoeegnancy and my custom orthotics are no longer right. I paid a lot of money for them and am reluctant to get them recast. I also am not sure if they would just make me hurt again. Could my orthotics be unsuitable for me post pregnancy? Or should I start wearing them again and hope my body adjusts?
It does happen.
Orthotics make changes all the way up the chain and it can take time for tissues further up to adapt and sometimes they don't.
If they don't adapt, then if the foot orthotic are still needed, the orthotics can be adjusted so the change is not as drastic (which means they are not as effective at treating the foot problem), so it becomes one of trade- offs.
