Object stuck in foot ?

My wife has had foot pain for over one month. She also has Rheumatoid Arthritis and initially thought it was related to that. Foot pain never got any better so she went to doctor's office who recommended she get Acupuncture to relieve the pain. She told the doc that her foot felt as tho it was broken and requested an X-Ray.

Imaging showed a 3cm needle stuck in her foot. She doesn't recall stepping on anything, but we do use 28 gauge kanthal wire for crafting small animals. Her doctor consulted a Podiatrist and he recommended a steroid shot and see if it still hurts in two weeks. My wife said she wanted it removed, but the doctor said it may be possible for it to remain in her foot since some people live with shrapnel from wars with no issues.

Since that time (one week ago), her foot has gotten worse and painful to walk on. I hope that someone can provide some answers/recommendations.

Thank you for your assistance

Removing 'needles' like that is actually quite difficult. Trying to find the object in the foot surgical can take a bit if "digging" around. If it is the casue of the pain and it is getting worse, then it does need to come out.
