DPM or MD i need help?

ok so ive known forever that i want to be doctor...ive always wanted to go into orthopedic surgery but this past spring i interned with a podiatrist and just found it to be so very interesting and very much what i want to do but with feet. i want to know what all the doctors out there and all the people think..i know dpm can make less money and im mormon so biggish family but ya what are your thoughts

AdminPerson 		Well the good things about becoming a podiatrist (DPM), is that you do not have to train for as long as an orthopedic surgeon. I believe it is only a year or two after getting out of a podiatric school. An orthopedic surgeon has to go through five years of residency after medical school and possibly even longer if wishing to do a fellowship. A fellowship is designed to become very specialized in one area within your field. For example, if you were to become an orthopedic surgeon and then do a fellowship, you could do fellowships on the back, hands, knees, etc. It is also much easier getting into podiatry school than medical school. I believe it will be more interesting to become an orthopod, however it will be much harder and longer amount of time getting there. Hope I helped.
